SOCOM 4 is a third person military shooter released on the PlayStation 3 in April of 2011. It had a campaign mode that could be played in single player or co-op, and a multiplayer mode that supported up to 32 players
One of my primary responsibilities on SOCOM 4 was tuning the weapons for both single player and multiplayer game modes. Almost all ally weapons had a paired enemy weapon with the same role but slightly different tuning. Each weapon had 6 mods (modification levels 0-5) that were unlocked by using the weapon in missions, with higher level mods providing improved stats or attachments (Scopes, bipods, extended mags, etc.).
The SMG class of weapons were close to mid-range weapons most effective when used for short bursts of high damage. The set of smgs consisted of 6 weapons distributed across Speed, Stealth, and Capacity specialties and each weapon had a counterpart in the opposing faction that shared the specialty, but was tuned slightly differently.
The shotgun class of weapons ranged from close to mid-range weapons. The set of shotguns consisted of 4 weapons distributed across Average and Power specialties. The Power specialty weapons used slug rounds, making them more effective at a longer range than the Average specialty shotguns.
The assault rifle class of weapons had the largest variety of capabilities and ranged from close to long range weapons. The set of assault rifles consisted of 12 weapons distributed across Average, Speed, Stealth, Power, Accuracy, and Close specialties, with 4 additional assault rifles added after release.
The machine gun class of weapons ranged from close to long range and were most effective when laying down suppressing fire or firing while the bipod was deployed from cover or the prone stance. The set of machine guns consisted of 6 weapons distributed across Average, Speed, and Power specialties.
The sniper rifle class of weapons ranged from mid to long range and were most effective when firing well timed, controlled shots. The set of sniper rifle weapons consisted of 6 weapons distributed across Speed, Average, and Power specialties, with 2 additional sniper rifles added after release.
